Erin may have been banned because she shares the same Internet provider as a douchebag who has been logging on repeatedly and hassling other artists, as explained here. [link] . Because many Internet providers have to give a user a different IP address every time (s)he logs on, DA has no choice but to ban entire ranges if IP addresses, effectively banning everyone who accesses from a certain Internet provider. It is most regrettable, but necessary.
AOL, If I remmeber correctly, is one of these rotating IP ISPs

FAQ #113: How can I close my deviantART account?
Now, due to abuse of the account closure procedure, dA discontinued that feature back in mid-June.
